SIX KUMANS LEARN TO READ
July 9, 2004
"It's awesome to see John sitting in the village reading Genesis and other Scripture!" wrote missionary Will Tallman.
John, a middle aged man, is one of six students that recently graduated from the first Kuman literacy class that is taught by Will's wife, Kelly. Four of the first graduates said they wanted to be trained to be literacy teachers so Kelly is also conducting training classes.
John, a believer, is one of those who desires to teach his fellow Kumans to read so that they too can read the Scriptures translated by Will and his co-worker Ken White. He is now a "teacher in training," assisting Kelly as she teaches seven students in a new class that started this week.
He wasn't the quickest student in class, but John worked hard to learn to read. Pray that he will have the same perseverance as he teaches others. And pray that his quiet, laid-back manner will not hinder him from correcting his students.
John's wife, Ewa, is not a believer. Pray that she will soon share her husband's faith and his love for reading God's Word.
